Hello, from AK Men’s Squad

The men's squad at Auriol Kensington Rowing Club consists of about 25-40 members, allowing us to regularly boat three 8's. We cater for all skill levels, from rowers stepping up from development squads (and learn to row programmes) to rowers racing at the top national regattas and qualifying for Henley Royal Regatta whilst balancing work and training.

Throughout the season we split our squad into smaller groups, focussing on 4s and pairs early in the season before targeting summer regattas and larger end of season races in 8's and 4's. Our milestone races comprise of HORR, Four's Head, and Henley Royal Regatta.

We aim to cater for all skill levels, ambitions and abilities. A huge portion of the AK experience is the social aspect on and off the water. We train and race hard, but have a great deal of fun as we do it. Please contact us if you are interested in joining or have any questions.

Coaching

Director of Rowing: Ian Shore

Ian is joining AK for the 23-24 season both as Director of Rowing and heading up coaching for the men’s squad. He brings a wealth of experience to AK, having been the head coach for the Oxford University Women’s Squad for eight years, DUBC’s women for six. He also was head of Welsh Rowing, and has experience as a high performance coach for a number of international programmes.

Ian is looking to build the men’s squad into a formidable force on the Tideway and beyond, and is excited about taking AK into a new era.

Assistant Coach: Eoghan Butler

Training

AK has a growing squad ranging from seasoned athletes to newcomers to the sport, you can make your time here what you want it to be.

Expect to train most days, with the ability to train individually if you work or other commitments make it hard to get down to the club. Our base schedule sees us training on the water Wednesday evening, and Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Additionally we do land training with two ergs a week, and a weights programme which can be completed in your own time.
